System Maintenance - DOS

System maintenance or clean up is needed on every system. Some users have neglected system maintenance and experience many problems that are directly related. It is very important to check your disk space regularly.

    1. At the C:\> prompt,

      Type: CHKDSK
Press <ENTER> (you may want to use SCANDISK if you have DOS 6.0 or above)

      Volume Serial Number is 1B5E-8E91

        209342464 bytes total disk space
55386112 bytes in 5 hidden files
        442368 bytes in 91 directories
147185664 bytes in 4497 user files
        6328320 bytes available on disk
4096 bytes in each allocation unit
51109 total allocation units on disk.

The bytes available on the disk is the amount of free space on your disk. This is the number to monitor.

    2. Files that can be deleted in the mcadata directory:

      TM*.*
      TEM*.*
      DRIVER*.*
      DRV*.*
      XF*.*

Note: Do not delete these files when the system is in use!
